Lab-created yellow moissanite. 2Ct elongated cushion cut. Cathedral shank solitaire. A fancy yellow stone with moissanite’s legendary fire and refractive index — the visual warmth of a fancy yellow diamond at a fraction of the cost. April birthstone equivalent. 10×9mm stone face.

This solitaire engagement ring features a 2Ct lab-created yellow moissanite in an elongated cushion cut, prong-set in a cathedral shank mounting. The cathedral shank rises in two arched curves on either side of the center stone before meeting the setting basket, elevating the stone above the finger plane and creating a high, architectural profile visible from the ring’s side view. The elongated cushion’s longer length-to-width ratio — longer than a square cushion, closer to an oval in its proportions — creates a slimmer, more finger-elongating silhouette than a square cushion of equivalent carat weight. The 10×9mm stone face is a substantial visual footprint. Available in 925 sterling silver, yellow gold plated, or rose gold plated in whole and quarter sizes from US 3 to 9 3/4. Handcrafted in Jaipur.

Yellow Moissanite: The Fancy Yellow Alternative

Fancy yellow diamonds — natural diamonds whose color is caused by nitrogen impurities within the diamond crystal structure — are the most commercially visible and culturally recognized colored diamond category, associated with some of the most famous gemstones in history (the Tiffany Yellow Diamond at approximately 128 carats, the Graff Vivid Yellow at 100 carats). They are also among the rarest and most expensive natural diamond colors: while colorless diamonds are graded on a D-to-Z scale with D being the most valuable, fancy yellow diamonds are graded on a separate fancy color scale (Fancy Light, Fancy, Fancy Intense, Fancy Vivid), and a Fancy Vivid yellow diamond of significant size commands prices per carat that far exceed equivalent colorless diamonds. Lab-created yellow moissanite achieves the warm, saturated yellow color through controlled introduction of trace elements during the silicon carbide crystal growth process, producing a stone that displays a vivid yellow body color with moissanite’s own exceptional optical properties: a refractive index of 2.65–2.69 (significantly higher than diamond’s 2.42) and a dispersion of 0.104 (versus diamond’s 0.044), meaning yellow moissanite produces more fire — more colored light flashes — than an equivalent yellow diamond. The combination of a warm yellow body color and moissanite’s inherently high dispersion produces a stone that flashes both the warm yellow of its body color and the full spectral fire of moissanite’s high dispersion simultaneously — an optical character that a natural yellow diamond of equivalent color cannot match at any price point.

The Elongated Cushion Cut

The cushion cut is a mixed cut with a square or rectangular outline with rounded corners and curved sides, combining elements of the old mine cut (the dominant diamond cut of the 18th and 19th centuries) with modern brilliant faceting. The standard cushion cut has a length-to-width ratio close to 1.00:1 (nearly square). The elongated cushion cut has a length-to-width ratio of approximately 1.10:1 to 1.20:1 — longer than square but not as elongated as an oval — which produces a stone face that appears larger relative to its carat weight than a square cushion of the same weight, because the stone’s footprint is spread across a greater surface area. The 10×9mm face of this 2Ct stone means the stone’s longest dimension is 10mm across the finger — a face size that in a colorless diamond would typically correspond to a significantly larger carat weight. The elongated cushion’s length running along the finger also creates a finger-elongating visual effect: the stone’s long axis parallels the finger’s length, drawing the eye along the finger rather than across it. In yellow moissanite, the elongated cushion’s rounded corners and curved sides soften the geometric rectangle and allow the stone’s warm yellow body color to fill the stone’s face from corner to corner without the hard linear edge breaks of a step-cut rectangle.

The Cathedral Shank

The cathedral shank is a ring mounting style where the shank’s metal rises in two arched curves on either side of the center stone, curving upward from the lower band to meet the setting basket at the stone’s girdle level. The visual reference is the pointed arches and flying buttresses of Gothic cathedral architecture — the shank’s metal curves mirror the Gothic arch’s upward sweep. The functional effect of the cathedral shank is elevation: the center stone sits higher above the finger plane than it would in a standard flat shank or low-profile setting, giving the stone a more prominent, more visible position from the side. The cathedral shank’s ascending curves also create a distinctive profile silhouette — when viewed from the side, the ring’s shank appears to sweep upward toward the stone in a continuous architectural line rather than meeting the setting at a right angle. For a substantial 2Ct center stone, the cathedral shank’s elevation also provides practical benefit: a high stone position allows light to enter the stone from below and from the sides through the open setting basket, maximizing moissanite’s fire and brilliance by maximizing the light that can reach the stone’s facets from all directions.

Yellow and Gold: Metal Pairing

Yellow moissanite is a stone whose body color is warm and saturated in the yellow range. Paired with yellow gold plating, the stone’s yellow tones blend with the metal’s yellow warmth in an analogous, harmonious combination — the overall ring reads as a unified warm statement where stone and metal occupy the same color temperature. Paired with rose gold plating, the metal’s pink undertone creates a gentle contrast with the stone’s yellow body color — yellow and pink are adjacent on the color wheel (analogous), so the pairing is harmonious but with slightly more visible distinction between stone and metal. Paired with 925 silver, the cool neutral metal provides the highest contrast against the warm yellow stone, making the stone’s color appear most vivid and distinct from the metal frame.

Care Instructions

  • Remove before swimming, showering, or applying lotions and perfumes (especially for plated finishes)
  • Moissanite is 9.25 Mohs — the hardest lab gemstone available; extremely durable for daily engagement ring wear
  • Clean with warm water, mild dish soap, and a soft-bristled brush; moissanite tolerates most standard cleaning methods
  • The cathedral shank’s elevated setting means the stone sits higher than in low-profile rings — be aware of snagging on fabrics
  • Store in a padded box when not worn
