About Moonstone & Adularescence

Moonstone is a variety of feldspar (orthoclase or adularia) composed of alternating layers of two different feldspars. When light enters the stone, it scatters between these internal layers and produces a soft, floating glow — a phenomenon called adularescence. Unlike labradorite’s flash, which appears at specific angles, adularescence has a billowing, three-dimensional quality: the light seems to move from within as the stone turns. The effect ranges from a subtle white shimmer to an intense electric blue depending on the stone’s layer structure and thickness. This is not a surface coating or treatment — it is an intrinsic optical property of the mineral.

About the Moissanite Accent

A round brilliant lab-created moissanite is star-set flush at the centre of the moonstone — a fixed point of white sparkle within the moving, shifting glow of the stone. Moissanite (silicon carbide) has a higher refractive index than diamond, producing strong fire from a small stone.
