This is a deliberate design choice: the horizontal axis makes the stone read as a wide, graphic element across the band rather than elongating upward, producing a low, architectural silhouette that sits closer to the finger. The full bezel surrounds the entire perimeter of the oval, framing the stone in a continuous metal rim that protects the girdle on all sides. For opal at Mohs 5.5–6.5, a full bezel is the most protective setting available in a solitaire format. Stone dimensions: approximately 8 × 10mm. Lab-created black opal reproduces the structure of precious black opal: a silica sphere array (SiO₂·nH₂O) on a dark body (potch) base. The dark base is what distinguishes black opal from other opal varieties — it provides high contrast against which play-of-colour (the iridescent spectral flashing caused by diffraction through the silica sphere structure) appears most intensely. Against a dark body, the same play-of-colour flashes that would appear muted on a white or crystal base read as vivid neon green, blue, and red. Each stone has a unique colour pattern — play-of-colour distribution varies across individual stones. Lab-created black opal (such as Gilson-type synthetic opal) reproduces the silica sphere structure and produces genuine play-of-colour in a dark body stone; the colour range and intensity are consistent with precious black opal. Care Instructions — Opal

Opal (hydrated silica, Mohs 5.5–6.5) requires careful daily handling. As a solitaire, the stone has more surface exposure than in a multi-stone eternity band. Opal contains water — rapid temperature changes can cause thermal shock and crazing (fine surface cracking). Prolonged dryness can dehydrate and crack the stone over time. Avoid all contact with chemicals, perfume, lotions, sunscreen, and cleaning products. Do not use ultrasonic or steam cleaners. Remove before swimming, showering, or any water exposure (prolonged soaking degrades the silica structure). Remove before physical activity or tasks with impact risk. Store in a cool, stable-temperature environment away from direct heat or sunlight. Lab-created opal is more stable than natural opal but retains the same sensitivities. Clean gently with a soft dry cloth only; do not immerse in water for cleaning.
